Volumio hangs on playing Tidal Playlists

Postby gorgias » Wed Aug 14 2019 05:08

Tried playing some of Tidals Moods & Genre playlists yesterday and Volumio just choked on it. Volumio became totally unresponsive probably waiting for a response from Tidal. Tried the same from BubbleUpnp and got a 404 response. I restarted Volumio and could listen to a couple of songs but then it just stopped again.

Maybe a shorter timeout would be appropriate in case the problem is on Tidals end? I eventually had to restart Volumio to get it it going again. Tried to play some regular albums from Tidal and that seemed to work.

Here's a log from yesterday: http://logs.volumio.org/volumio/aHJKSHu.html

#Edit#
I think it has something to do with mpd service. Here's a snippet from mpd.log when I'm trying to play an artist "playlist/radio".
From volumio web UI, enter tidal and find an artist. Click on the three dots to the right and choose play from the popup menu.

Volumio gets unresponsive and won't play anything when this happens. I managed to resolve the issue by restarting mpd service:

Code: Select all
systemctl stop mpd
systemctl restart mpd

Volumio hangs on playing Tidal Playlists

Postby kermit_nc » Sun Aug 18 2019 16:50

There two issues about this:

First I patched my statemachine about the negative playback timer issue (google --> github). The negative playback timer issue had an serious impact on mpd.
Later I noticed a second issue in volumio mainly with webradio and also sometimes on tidal: Volumio.log shows at title changes that the response is some kind wrong. This issue also makes the mpd unresponsive. I issued a PR on github: [https://github.com/volumio/Volumio2/issues/1791]

Normaly: mpd has 2% proc time (monitored with top)
One of the issue above: cant find mpd in the process list (also monitored with top)

Restarting the mpd directly at normal condition: instantaneously; mpd not responding: 2min

Volumio hangs on playing Tidal Playlists

Postby gorgias » Mon Aug 19 2019 15:05

I noticed today that listening to webradio only works for a certain amount of time. Suddenly there is no sound. Volumio indicates still playing.
mpd.log shows a lot of:
Aug 19 16:10 : player: Decoder is too slow; playing silence to avoid xrun
Aug 19 16:10 : player: Decoder is too slow; playing silence to avoid xrun
Aug 19 16:10 : player: Decoder is too slow; playing silence to avoid xrun
Aug 19 16:10 : player: Decoder is too slow; playing silence to avoid xrun

kermit_nc do you think this is related? I don't believe that it's a problem with cpu-power. I'm on a raspberry pi 3B+

I really like Volumio but these problems makes it difficult to use as a "daily driver".
