Emotiva Big Ego DAC

Postby KeithG » Tue Oct 11 2016 18:43

Name: Emotiva Big Ego
Receiver: XMOS
DAC: TI/Burr Brown PCM5142
Async: Yes
Working with Volumio: Yes with comments
Tested Versions and Platforms: Raspberry Pi 3
Harware Mixer on Volumio: Yes
HW Mixer string:
Comments: Sound quality excellent, occasion clicks and dropouts on 24/96k and 24/192k. Plays perfect on 24/352.8k
Buying Link:www.emotiva.com

I had to increase the buffer size and buffer % to have listenable playback on 24/192k. It makes no sense to me that play back is much cleaner from 44.1kHz and 2X, 4X and 8X multiples files than it is off 48kHz and multiples files. Sound quality from Raspberry Pi 3/Volumio is much better than from my Mac Mini using the same DAC and speakers or headphones.

Comments: Some report better sound quality using a better power supply (http://thehbproject.com/en/reviews/149/Musical-Fidelity-V90-DAC-d/a-converter. I haven't tried yet. Slightly better sound when i connect an Ifi IPower supply on the Beaglebone Black instead of a standard power supply.
