USB DAC compatibility List

Postby mannitheear » Wed May 11 2016 09:36

Name: Henry Audio USB DAC 128 mkII
Receiver: Atmel AVR32 general-purpose MCU programmed in open source C
DAC: Asahi Kasei AKM4430
Async: Yes
Working with Volumio: Yes, but only USB Audio Class 1 (UAC1)
Tested Versions and Platforms: PI 2
Harware Mixer on Volumio: No
HW Mixer string: -
Comments: In UAC1 the DAC supports CD quality and a bit more (up to 24bit/48ksps). In UAC2 it uses up to 32bit/192ksps for high res audio, but UAC2 doesn't work with Pi 2 (stuttering sound).

The sound quailty with UAC1 is great, maybe the best DAC I owned yet, among models up to 1300 €.

Tested 100% working with FLAC files up to 24/192 with no issues except for very few and minor "ticks" on 24/192 files. All other (ie 24/96 and lower) files play 100% no issues.

Name: Musical Fidelity V-Link I
Receiver:
DAC:
Async: Assync USB
Working with Volumio: Yes
Tested Versions and Platforms: Raspberry Pi 3
Harware Mixer on Volumio:
HW Mixer string:
Comments: V-Link is a USB assync unit that also connects to my Emotiva XDA-1 DAC that does not have a assync DAC input. V-Link shows up in Volumio's "Output Device" section and requires no configuration. Sends all my music files to my Emotiva XDA-1 DAC and then to my system. Sound is wonderful. Tested to 24/192 FLAC file playback. At 24/192 there is minor and very occassional ticks, but on all lower files the playback is flawless.
