TPA3255 based 100 Watts Class D Amplifiers

This chip is said to give a very low THD 0.005% and > 105dB s/n ratio.

Has anyone tried out this chip? What was your experience?

I finally got a TPA3255 Evaluation board from Texas Instruments. This is a very nice board, and the quality of sound is excellent. I recommend it to others too.

Ever since I built a linear psu for Pi and Boss 1.2, the sound has become much cleaner. The say that 3255 does not need a linear supply.

I am satisfied with TPA3251. It's a bit weaker than TPA3255 but for me is strong enough. I play music on 35%. When you will choose chip, think. Stronger chip have larger gain and you will need better source with lower noise.

TPA3255 based 100 Watts Class D Amplifiers

Received the 3e-audio TPA3255 and 400W SMPS. Very nicely done. Miles ahead of
the cheaper TPA3255 EVM copies. I was in need of a subwoofer amp for the dipoles
in my main system and 3255 fit the bill. But before regulating it to sub-sonic duties,
it would be fun to confirm or debunk other 3255 reports.

Needs burn-in, but so far the combo does very well on LF. Maybe too well compared
to my neutral NCORE NC400 (same upstream and downstream).

Does a convincing job making music given my very difficult speaker load (85dbWm)
reflex loaded. The 2 x 260W are welcome.

Sound stage is thin and narrow, but that should open up as the pair burn in.
SMPS's switching is audible from 3 inches. I can't hear it from where I listen.

The HF are problematic right now. May well be the cheap wire supplied on the
input header. I plan to direct wire on to the amp board.

Also, with 2 x 1000uFD per side, I think reserves are a bit low. This may be
contributing to the thin stage. Or the limits may be the op-amp front to the
TPA3255. This board has SMT parts for op-amp, so difficult to swap. Would
have been nice to have them socketed.

This is good value at $200 (approx). Even without burn-in, it makes music.
Definitely audiophile class, - not hifi or midfi or consumer-fi.

It is no Ncore, but then it doesn't cost 1300Euro.

TPA3255 based 100 Watts Class D Amplifiers

I recently compared my 3255 with a Jean Hiraga Class A Amplifier using the same source and speakers. While the bass is equal, vocals are fuller in a Class A and treble is clearer. The difference is noticeable.

Has anyone else done a similar comparison?
