I have installed the Spotify plugin on the latest Volumio and managed to login to Spotify successfully. When I choose a playlist or track, it appears to play - the notification says it is playing and the progress bar moves, but no sound comes out. The second time I try, nothing at all happens.
Did you activate the plugin to ON in settings.
Sometimes a reboot helps.
Also the device playing Spotify will need the volume turned up.

Which audio device do you use? Do you use software volume control?
Oh, could it be related to that? Yes I have it configured for software, although that is not working as I said here volume-control-problems-t13382.html. Most other things - local files, internet radio, all play fine, it’s just that I cannot control the volume, they are on ‘full’ all the time.
Oh, and I use an external Fiio USB DAC.
I think that Spotify 2.0.0 plugin doesn’t work properly, plugin always losing authorization.
I use the other Spotify plugin the volspot one and works fine, might be worth trying that

i’m new to Spotify premium. (test account)
The v2.0.0 plugin is crashing the volumio service. Login is working but at authentification things go bad at the moment.
The spotify connect plugin v0.99 is working for me but sound quality is under the earth (dull).
Anybody knows of support from Spotify ?
Don’t think to keep it as it is.

You mean the spotify connect? The spotify apps on my computer and phone cannot connect to it successfully. They see it, but never manage a connection.
I could not authorise on the phone. I went to the Volumio web page on my computer and it authorised properly from there.
I can’t get it to connect. I am using Spotify into a chromecast audio at the moment. That connects and works - sound is reasonable.

I would reckon there are issues with your output device/mixer settings.
Butt with no logs, can’t confirm…
I agree, but problems with the software mixer have been ignored for many versions now…
and to prove the point, Moode works, not just Spotify connect, but the volume control / mixer works, even hardware control, which has been missing since that update that broke it in Volumio quite a few versions ago.
A real pity as I am a fan of Volumio, and have been promoting it when asked for a recommendation for an rpi music system.
ah well, maybe in version 3…
Software volume for spotify is on my todo list.
The thing about volume, unfortunately is something I coul not fully understand why it happened. The solution for that is unfortunately to perform a reset user data…

Since it broke on an upgrade, and resetting the data fixes it. Maybe there was a change/incompatibility of that data between versions?
